Our Journey
Truancy Intervention Georgia has grown from a targeted project into an expansive initiative, driven by the imperative to effectively combat chronic absenteeism and truancy across the state. With a history spanning over 30 years, our journey is characterized by an unwavering commitment to understanding and addressing the root causes of chronic absenteeism and truancy. This dedication has not only enhanced the educational experiences of countless students but also brought significant benefits to their families, positively impacting communities throughout Georgia.
What We Do
Our strategy involves collaboration with partners, deploying targeted interventions across various sectors throughout Georgia – including courts, schools, and communities. These interventions, astutely designed, tackle pivotal issues such as food insecurity, mental health challenges, housing insecurity, parental underemployment, period poverty, and more which are fundamental contributors to truancy and chronic absenteeism.
Our approach adopts a comprehensive perspective, acknowledging that the factors contributing to truancy and chronic absenteeism transcend the educational sphere and are deeply rooted in the broader challenges faced in the everyday lives of children. Our initiatives focus on alleviating these key issues and fostering an environment that supports and nurtures children’s well-being. This holistic strategy is crucial in effectively addressing truancy and absenteeism rates, as it involves a combination of resources, education, and statewide connectivity.

History
Over 30 years ago, the collaboration between the Fulton County Juvenile Court and the Atlanta Bar Association birthed Truancy Intervention Georgia, fondly known as the Truancy Intervention Project Georgia (TIP). Recognizing the strong link between chronic absenteeism and future involvement in delinquency, TIP Georgia emerged. Dispelling the notion that absenteeism merely indicated a lack of interest in education, TIP acknowledged the diverse underlying factors at play. Throughout Georgia, TIP Georgia became an essential advocate, working tirelessly in court, schools and communities to break barriers and build futures.
